Two by Two by Two

Three great ladies (Her Bad Mother, Mrs. Chicky, and Mrs. Chicken) are having second babies and there's a virtual baby shower to ease their transitions from families of three to families of four.

I know I looked at Mrs. Chicken over lunch one day and told her with a straight and serious face that having two children is three times the work. And I realize that I scared the crap out of her. At the moment, it was a lot of work. The baby was only a month or two old at the time. But I have to say that it has definitely gotten easier.

Here are some inevitablilities:

Yes, every time you sit down to nurse (or rock, or give a bottle to) the baby, your toddler who is in the middle of potty training will have to poop and will need your assistance.

Yes, it will probably be noon by the time you realize that every one has eaten and you still haven't had a bite to eat.

Yes, the laundry will somehow quadruple with the addition of just one more tiny little guy.

But it will all be worth it when:

You see the love that the older child has for her new sibling.

The baby looks at his big sister with such awe and you can just picture what an onery pair they are going to be.

It really is wonderful having two and you won't remember life without him.
